ParticipantI am pleased to say that here at the LA Miller Centre in st. John’s I have been able to use Dignity Therapy with patients who meet the criteria. So far, that has been 3 patients in 5 months. The feedback from both the patients and their families has been very positive. Patient’s ages have ranged from 41 to 80 and I have worked with 2 women and one man.
In addition, our attending physicians have invited me to teach our 5th year family practice residents about dignity focused care and specifically about the dignity therapy work we are offering on the unit.
It has been a mutually enriching experience that sees patients experiencing their lives and meaningful and important and allows me to bear witness to rich and unique experiences of being human.

KeymasterHello Rhonda,
Thank you so much for sharing your experiences with Dignity Therapy thus far. It sounds like it has been a positive experience all round. It is also very gratifying to hear that your attending physician has taken notice, and that you are being invited to teach residents. I think you are wise in combining Dignity Therapy with the broader issue of Dignity Conserving Care. While the former is something they might be interested in hearing about, the latter is something they must incorporate into their day to day practice.
Also be mindful that empiricists like to hear about data; if you need some powerpoint slides (of the variety you saw me present at the workshop), feel free to contact me. They are meant for teaching purposes and may lighten your preparation load.
All the best Rhonda,
harvey

ParticipantHi I have done my first real dignity therapy, and I must say that I was surprised. The staff told me that he was declining, but the same day I did the recording he fell and declined quickly after that. The double effect princible did hit me. I was heartened by the fact that when I read the document back he told me that I “hit the nail on the head”. I would like some feedback and have attempted to attach the file without success I fear. Is there a better way to attach files using this link or should I use another way? I am not a real therapist, a nurse by profession, and would appreciate the feedback.

ParticipantI am about to begin my first Dignity Therapy session and though I am a bit nervous I am also excited. I have received a “Improving Nursing Practice Grant” from the Professional Nursing Practice department. It will allow me to do one a month for 4-6 months. My hope is that our program will be able to fund more of them.

ParticipantI have done 4 Dignity Therapies in the past couple of months as a volunteer here in Baltimore, Maryland. I have found it to be very rewarding and it has made a profound impact in the lives that it has touched. Thank you for your great questions that are able to bring so much insight into a persons’ life.
