Miguel, you’re a great communicator! So here are two questions:
      1. I have written to each workshop attendee and heard from almost 100%. I mentioned that I have six months of program development and implementation experience that I would like to begin writing about and sharing, should others find it useful. Almost everyone said to send e-mails–and that they weren’t very good about web sites. I could write entries and then send an e-mail to everyone saying I had posted. Any advice on this one?
      2. Also since I want to talk about my real life stuff is that the right thing for this site and I have a couple of developed pieces that would be attachments. So it seems like my length would be overwhelming.
I need advice and consel on what my next step should be. And yes, “Michael, don’t take yourself so seriously,” would also be considered advice.
The workshop experience was powerful, in no small part because of people like you who intuitively know the power of listening. Miguel, you really make a difference.

      Dear Michael:

Putting your personal experiences on the website would be great, at least I think!
You could get some way to send an email to all of us to stimulate some kind of reply.
      Did I answer your question?

A question: I didn´t understand if the website is made already. Is it?

      all the best

Hi Miguel, How are you? This is my first time on the site for ages. I have seen my first ‘dignity therapy’ patient. The hardest part for me was getting the document right. That seemed particularly important to this man (82 with mesothelioma).

Bridget, simply wonderful to see your posting and hear of your progress!!! On August 22 I will be training a couple of folks who have not done this before either and I need your help. Could you please tell me the approach you used for editing. My people will be reading Harvey’s chapter on this topic and I will talk about my own experiences, but your insights and challenges would be invaluable to me.
Just seeing your name today made me smile and I want to thank you personally for taking the time to post. Warm regards to you, Michael

      Dear Bridget:
Wonderful to hear from you and congratulations to hear about your first DT patient! A nice and profound expeience, no?
About the GenDoc, take your time, don´t promisse in advance no other time that a time that you can really keep real. If it really is important for this 82 yold pt, just focus on that will of this man like it was the last important thing that someone asks you to do! It helps to do some extra effort thinking that, at the end of the day, it will pay off tremendously in your happyness and heart! Keep that in mind and try to take that strenght to help you listen and edit in the shortest time possible!
Editing continues to be the most difficult part of this wonderful DT task! but it´s a superb moment when you look into patients eyes after the job is done and you read the final doc! Try to keep that after strenght in mind during the process too, ok?
I think each one of us start to built some inner ways to face the (sometimes!…) hard task of having in your hands such a pressing and important think to do about fragile and unique human beings that trust you in a deeper and conscious way parts of their lives! It´s gold… pure gold what we have in our hands!

I hope this helps! Please write me if you have any other questions, ok?
Michael: How are you? Any other input from your experince?
And all the other DT friends? How are you? Personally and DT research and field work?

ALL THE BEST! keep in touch!!! PLEASE!!!!!

Miguel, thanks for asking, I finished my 6 month pilot project and saw 11 patients and completed 5 manuscripts. Changing health conditions and problems with introspection are primary reasons for non-completion. For comparision, a recently published study by the San Diego Hospice covering August 28, 2009 and May 28, 2010 stated that 110 referrals were received and of those, 27 patients completed the full protocol.

My recommedation to our Hospice Management was that this work should not be done by volunteers. (and remember, I am one)While I ennumerated several reasons-the sense of always “being on call” and the absolute need for quality control oversight were two key reasons.

Since the above recommendation I have spent considerable time developing a training component that involves Board representation, and staff orientation, plus training for our Dignity Therapy Gudes–one of whom is an experienced nurse and the other an MSW.

Miguel, do you have a program in place? Thank you for your energy and committment to this poweful program. and thank you for being such an excellent communicator. Michael
